What’s Grigori Perelman Up to These Days?

Some time ago (nearly 4 years ago!) we told you about Grigori Perelman and his solution to Thurston’s Geometrization Conjecture and the Poincaré Conjecture.  And we later told you how he turned down the Fields Medal and the $1,000,000 Clay Prize.

So what has Grigori Perelman been up to lately?

Brett Forrest of the UK newspaper The Telegraph decided to go to Russia and see if he could chat with Dr. Perelman.  You can read about his adventures and his eventual chat with Dr. Perelman here.

  1. I found some of the imagery used to portray Perelman offensive and Brett Forrest clearly does not understand Perelman’s displeasure with the culture he experienced amongst those in the math profession and how he has been treated by the media. The article reads as a classic case of not doing one’s homework.

    • Michael,

Thanks for the comment. We agree that the tone leaned towards “hey, what’s that crazy Russian math guy up to these days?” rather than trying to get an honest interview. But probably that’s because the media always goes for the cheap gimmick to get people’s attention over actually providing substance (see the presidential campaign).
