Corporate Math

When we’re not procrastinating by looking at 3QD, we watch TED talks.   For example, here is one by Benoit Mandelbrot talking about fractals:

There are also independently organized TED events around the world.  Here is a great video by Justin Solonynka, a teacher at Abington Friends School in Jenkintown, PA,  who spoke at TEDxAFS.  He talks about the importance of numeracy.  In particular, he talks about the infamous case of the major cell phone company who doesn’t know their dollars from their cents.  It’s worth watching the video just to hear the recording of the conversation between the cell phone company rep and the customer!

As a bonus, he also talks about one of our favorite mind-blowing bits of math.
