Sophia Morren, the director of the OU McNair Scholars Program, has let us know of a summer research opportunity in mathematics at Miami University in Ohio. It is the Summer Undergraduate Mathematical Science Research Institute (SUMSRI). It is specifically designed to serve women and other groups underrepresented in mathematics, but is open to all interested applicants. Note that they don’t expect you to have a huge amount of math before doing the program. As they say, “The ideal candidate will have completed the college level calculus series and at least one proof-based mathematics or statistics course with distinction. The candidate should be entering their junior or senior year after attending SUMSRI.”
You should check it out! And while you’re at it, you should check out our other post on summer jobs doing research.
And while we’re at it, we should put a plug in for the McNair Scholars program. If you are a first generation college student or are from an underrepresented group, then the McNair Scholars program provides a number of great opportunities. Check out the above link!
