As we recently reported here,  the Math Dept’s Dr. Petrov is the 2009 winner of the Irene Rothbaum Outstanding Assistant Professor Award.  We just learned that we is also arguably one of the best wrestlers in the history of the sport.  He won the first world championship in wrestling and was never defeated in his 25 year career!  You can read more about his accomplishements on his Wikipedia page. He also plays tennis, does rock climbing, and is an accomplished painter.  Truly a polymath!

  1. I knew that Professor Petrov was the most reccomended Physical Math teacher for Physics majors, but I was unaware of his world fame. Congrats on all of your accomplishments Professor Petrov!

  2. Truly an example for all those who think mathematicians only stick themselves in the corner of a library working problems all day…

Now if you’ll excuse me, I must get back to my corner…
